Elpida

Elpida has a great deal of expertise designing standard and low-power DDR3, GDDR5, XDR memory, and has already shipped prototype Wide IO RAM. Elpida Memory, Inc was a corporation established in 1999 that developed, designed, manufactured and sold dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) products. It was also a semiconductor foundry. The company became a fully owned subsidiary of Micron Technology on July 31, 2013.


Elpida Memory, Inc., was one of the world’s top producers of DRAM (dynamic random-access memory) chips, and was the only remaining major DRAM manufacturer based in Japan. Elpida develops DRAMs for the three major market segments: Servers, Personal Computers, and the increasingly important Digital Consumer Electronics & Mobile Devices market. The company’s production includes DDR (double data rate) and Rambus-based DRAMs. Formed in 1999 through the merger of the DRAM operations of NEC and Hitachi, Elpida was listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.


July 2013 Micron announced that it closed the deal to acquire 100 percent of Elpida’s equity. As part of the Elpida integration process, Micron expanding to include more products and part numbers. You will see Elpida part numbers listed for several technologies, including DDR3, LPDRAM, and GDDR5.
