Thomson Passive Components (AVX)
In June 1998, AVX extended its reach again with the acquisition of the Passive Component division (TPC) of Thomson-CSF. TPC’s portfolio includes film capacitors, ferrites, high-energy and high-voltage power capacitors, ceramic capacitors, varistors, and nonlinear resistors. The purchase would provide AVX, with $1.1bn in revenue and 13,000 employees and the market leader in ceramic condensers, access to markets where it is hardly present.
