ISKRA Zascite was founded in 1989 in order to develop and produce surge protection devices for various applications of protecting electrical and electronic appliances in industry, business facilities and people’s homes. Despite a number of different technologies which have been appearing on the market in the field of surge protection devices, Iskra Zascite has remained loyal to varistor technology and thus contributed its part to the development of this particular technology. The company also provided guidelines for the development of varistors which represent the main basic components of modern surge protection devices.

October 2015 Raycap (www.raycap.com) acquired surge protection manufacturer and innovator, Iskra Zascite in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Raycap is a global manufacturer with Headquarters in Munich Germany and sales and operations throughout Europe and North America. The company manufactures surge protection products and connectivity solutions for telecommunications, energy markets and other industrial applications. Raycap’s innovative technology is marketed under its Strikesorb®, Rayvoss® and ACData® product brands.

Lightning and surge protection of a wind turbine system 

With the growing awareness of the global warming and the limits to our fossil based fuels, the need to find better renewable source of energy is becoming apparent. The use of wind energy is a rapidly growing industry. Such installation are generally located on open and elevated terrain and as such present attractive capture points for lightning discharges. If reliable supply is to be maintained it is important that sources of over-voltage damage are mitigated. Iskra Zascite provides an extensive range of surge protection devices suited to both direct and partial lightning currents. 

Lightning and surge protection of a photovoltaic system 

With the ever increasing effects of global warming and resultant importance of energy conservation, mankind is looking to new sources of renewable energy. Of growing importance in this new frontier is the use of photovoltaic sources. Such systems by their very nature need to be located outdoors and as such are susceptible to the effects of lightning induced damage. If safe and reliable operation is to be ensured, these systems must be protected with suitable surge protection measures.
