Allen: The Original Innovator of Hex Key Technology

Allen, founded in the early 20th century, revolutionized the fastening industry with the invention of the Allen wrench in 1913. Originally known as the Allen Manufacturing Company, the brand gained widespread recognition for developing recessed hex-driven safety screws, a critical innovation for industrial machinery. Though Allen left the company shortly after its early success, the hex key continues to bear his name globally. Allen became part of the Apex Tool Group, which has since transitioned its hex key production to the Crescent brand, carrying on the legacy of precision and reliability.

Allen specialized in producing high-quality L-keys, T-handle hex wrenches, and set screws used in a wide range of industrial and automotive applications. Known for their durability, compact form, and ability to reach tight spaces, Allen tools were a staple in maintenance, manufacturing, and assembly environments. These tools provided engineers and technicians with a safe, torque-efficient solution for fastening and unfastening hexagonal bolts and screws.
